HR Licence (Heavy Rigid Truck Licence)
The highest class of truck licence you can obtain from holding a car licence. You must have held a car for at least 2 years or higher class of licence (MR Licence (Medium Rigid) 12 months to be eligible for HR driver licence in NSW. Please note that any time spent on a P1 licence counts towards the year total however you are unable to practice on an LR vehicle or obtain an LR licence until you hold a P2 or full class C licence.
What you can Driver?
- HR Vehicle is defined as a truck or bus (including a prime mover) with over 8 tonne Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) with 3 or more axles. Any towed trailers must not weigh more than 9 tonnes GVM.
-Bendy buses – although these vehicles are articulated, they are considered rigid vehicles.
-If you apply for HR Unconditional licence it will give you the high range of employment prospects as you can drive any HR vehicle (road rangers, Synchromesh and automatic gearboxes). But a lot of modern trucks these days are no longer using crash gearboxes (Road rangers)
HOW TO APPLY FOR HR DRIVER LICENCE IN NSW
In order to apply for Heavy Rigid Licence course, you must first attend an RMS office in person and;
- Licence Application Form
-Provide proof of identity
-Pass the HR knowledge test
-Pass an eyesight test
You will then be issued with a Heavy Vehicle HVCBA Learner’s Log Book and a copy of the Guide to Heavy Vehicle Competency Based Assessment. The guide will provide you with all the necessary information required regarding what tasks you need to complete in the training and your final assessment. All progress is recorded in your log book which shows your progress in developing the skills required to upgrade your licence. It is important that you keep your Log Book until you have passed your final assessment.

We can deliver the best and safest truck training in NSW to ensure all new drivers understand the fundamentals of handling a heavy rigid (HR) vehicle safely on road in NSW and Australia. We provide one on one training covering all 13 criteria involved in the assessment for an HR licence training.
Once you have successfully completed your Final Competency Assessment with Ezy Way Driving, we will give you a certificate of Competency then you simply attend an RMS centre and you will be issued with your upgraded licence letter and licence will be posted to your address in a week or two.
