WHAT VEHICLES HR DRIVING LICENCE HOLDERS CAN DRIVE:
Trucks and buses with a GVM more than 8 tons, and 3 or more axles.
Any towed trailer must not weigh more than 9 tons GVM.
Bendy buses, even though these vehicles are articulated, they’re treated as rigid vehicles.
To apply for a HR Truck Licence (Heavy Rigid)
1- Requirements
Have held a class C licence or equivalent for two years or more.
P1 licence can’t practice driving an HR vehicle, or upgrade to an HR licence until you hold a P2 or full class C licence
2-Roads and Maritime Services (RMS / RTA)
Book and Pass the HR knowledge test with RMS
Pass an eyesight test with RMS
Get HR log book from RMS

CONDITIONAL AND UNCONDITIONAL HR TRUCK LICENCE
The difference is based on vehicle gearbox only, not size or axles.
HR Unconditional licence,
You need to do training and assessment (test) with Crash Gearbox trucks. (Not popular)
You can drive any HR class vehicles,
Road rangers (Crash gearbox)
Manual (Synchromesh gearbox)
Automatic (Auto gearbox)
HR CONDITIONAL LICENCE (CONDITION B)
You need to do training and assessment with synchromesh or Automatic (very popular) in Both case you will get Condition B licence but you can drive both: Manual (Synchromesh Gearbox) Automatic (Auto gearbox)
MEDIUM RIGID (MR) TRUCK LICENCE
MR vehicles include:
Trucks and buses with a GVM more than eight tonnes and two axles
Any towed trailer must not weigh more than nine tones GVM.
To apply for an MR licence, you must:
1-REQUIREMENTS
A- Have held a class C licence, (except a learner licence) or equivalent for one year or more.
Any time you've spent on a P1 licence counts, but you can't practice to drive an MR vehicle, or
upgrade to an MR licence until you hold a P2 or full class C licence
B- Pass the MR knowledge test
C- Pass an eyesight test

Light Rigid (LR) Truck Licence
Rigid vehicles with a GVM of more than 4.5 tonnes, but not more than 8 tonnes. Any towed trailer must not weigh more than 9 tonnes. Vehicles up to 8 tonnes GVM which can carry more than 12 adults, including the driver.
To apply for a LR Truck Licence (Light Rigid)
Have held a class C licence, (except a learner licence) or equivalent for one year or more. Any time you've spent on a P1 license counts, but you can't practice to drive an LR vehicle, or upgrade to an LR license until you hold a P2 or full class C license
Pass the LR knowledge test Pass an eyesight test
Heavy Combination - Class HC Licence
Articulated vehicles with three or more axles
Heavy rigid vehicle trailer combinations including unladen dolly, with three or more axles
Any towed trailer with a GVM more than nine tones.
TO APPLY FOR A HC LICENCE OR HEAVY COMBINATION / SEMI TRAILER IN NSW YOU NEED TO:
1. Have held a class MR or HR licence or equivalent for one year or more. Any time you've spent on a
2. P2 MR or HR licence counts, but you can't practice to drive an HC vehicle or upgrade to an HC licence
3. until you hold a full class MR or HR licence
4. Pass the HC knowledge test
5. Pass an eyesight test
6. Call Ezy Way Driving for Training and Assessment and then Apply for your licence.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS for All applicants:
1. Have held a Class MR or HR licence (not including a learner's licence) for a period totalling at least 1 year.
2. Complete Roads & Maritime Services (RMS) knowledge test questions successfully
3. Obtain Heavy Vehicle Competency Based Assessment (HVCBA) learner's guidebook and logbook
4. HVCBA guidebook must be read thoroughly before starting training
AUTOMATIC/SYNCHROMESH CONDITION
IF YOU’RE ASSESSED FOR YOUR HEAVY VEHICLE LICENCE IN A VEHICLE WITH AN AUTOMATIC OR SYNCHROMESH GEARBOX, A CONDITION WILL BE ADDED TO YOUR LICENCE. THIS MEANS YOU’LL ONLY BE PERMITTED TO DRIVE VEHICLES WITH A SIMILAR TRANSMISSION.
To have the automatic/synchromesh condition removed from your licence, you need to be assessed driving a vehicle fitted with a constant mesh gearbox ( Double clutch ). This assessment can be through a Competency Test with Ezy Way Driving School which is an accredited HVCBA provider in NSW, or in a shortened version of a Roads and Maritime driving test.
